A bright future ahead

Since we opened our doors we have welcomed quite a few new members, but we are always looking at ways to improve for the benefit of our clients.

But as coaches we also think it’s important that our clients see us improving also which is one of the reasons we joined forces with Elite Strongman Promotions and Robet Daglish to host Shildon’s Strongest Novice a week ago.

We welcomed Bob and his team to our Shildon facility on Sunday 25th September. Luckily the weather tired up and we ended up having a fantastic day.

There was two events being held, a male open weight and female open weight competition.

Mens: 1. Overhead medley featuring 60kg dumbbell, 80kg axel, 90kg log and 100kg olympic bar, 2. 220kg deadlift for reps, 250kg yoke for 40m, 90kg farmers for 40m & a 8.5T bus pull for 25m

Coach Callum was one of two to complete all items in the overhead medley, achieved 9 reps in the deadlift, received solid times in the yoke and farmers. Going into the final event there was a 3 way tie for 1st between Callum, Matthew and Ryan, the bus pull was difficult and again only 2 competitors managed to move it with Callum finishing 0.7 seconds behind winner Ryan.

The Ladies event featured 3 members of The Pit, coach Elaine, Sarah Sowerby & Louise Northwood.

Ladies: 1. 40kg log for reps in 60 sec, 2. 70kg deadlift for reps in 60sec, 3. 40kg farmers 40m, 4. 100kg yoke 40m & 5.5t bus pull

All ladies showed tremendous heart and pushed all the way to the end, a point to remember was that none of these 3 ladies had specifically trained for strongman events for more than a week before the competition.

On the podium Desi took 1st place followed by Happi and our own Louise taking 3rd. Sarah managed a very impressive 5th wirth Elaine in 8th.

All the ladies performed fantastically and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

Since then Elaine has gone on to run Muddy Mayhem at Hardwick Park finishing 43rd out of all females and 123 out of all entrants which is a fantastic achievement.

Sarah also put on her running shoes competing in Carslile half marathon, putting in a massive performance.

Coming up we have two members with Callum & John competing in a powerlifting competition aiming to bring home some medals in their weight categories.

Elaine and Callum have also signed up for tough mudder 2017 and the suffering 2017, if you would like to join their team feel free to email info@thepitgym.co.uk
